Michael R. Sternberg, M.D. is a Board Certified Psychiatrist specializing in medication management and therapy for children and adults. He has over 25 years of experience treating Depression, Anxiety Disorders (including OCD and Panic Disorder), Bipolar Disorder, ADHD and other psychiatric disorders. He is a graduate of Stanford University (Bachelors of Science), New York University School of Medicine (M.D. degree) and did psychiatric residency training at the George Washington University Medical Center. He believes in a pragmatic, collaborative style of treatment and uses excellent listening skills and compassion to first understand the nature of the patient's problem. Medications are chosen to target the symptoms of each condition. His expertise in choosing and adjusting medications is grounded in extensive knowledge of psychiatric medications. Dr. Sternberg was the primary investigator for many clinical trials of medications which have since been brought to market and so has the benefit of understanding the effectiveness and limitations, including side effects, of medications prescribed.
It is the combination of expertise, concern, listening skills, and relentless pursuit of remission of symptoms to relieve each patient's suffering that has brought him high marks in patient reviews. Every patient is treated as a unique individual and Dr. Sternberg recognizes the importance of collaboration with each patient to bring about desired therapeutic effects.
